THE JOYS

It could be because they’ve been certified Gold in Canada, or possibly because they play around 200 shows a year across North America. Maybe the fantastic live show… what makes Canadian rock group The Joys so appealing? First Coast News was quoted saying

“This is a band that is the very ideal of what a professional band is all about. If you were to open a musical Who's Who, there would be a picture of The Joys album Unfold next to the words...band that has it all together. This male/female combo is a super sharp, highly refined and ridiculously tight unit that is so skillful and adept that it's amazing that they're not the hugest band in the Great White North. That being said, Unfold sounds like it was pieced together precisely by a team of German physicists and engineers hell-bent on designing the perfect alt-rock album.”

At this point all you have is a resume and some hype to build an opinion on, and we all know that until the songs are pumping through your car speakers or a set of headphones in a dark room, facts don’t mean anything.

The Joys gravitated toward each other to create music, openly share their ideas, ideals and dreams within the vehicle of songwriting and then bring their vision to the public stage with a sonic boom. The Joys are on a journey to discover the truths of life, share their victories and defeat, capture the beauty and power of life, love, anger and all the tapestries of the human conditions in between not only on record, but to the platform in front of a live audience to share their stories, with raw, powerful and electrifying energy.

Fronted by Sarah Smith with her powerful voice, charismatic and theatrical stage presence, Mikey McKyes lighting the sky with unforgettable riffs and stratospheric guitar leads, Ken Ross thumping out melodic and heart pounding bass lines gluing the band together with Kevin Komatsu, beating musically primal chants on his drum kit. A trip to the past, where rock was about capturing feeling and emotion married to a contemporary sound taking us away to a future of endless possibilities filled with the questions and answers of life.

Share our journey.
