Sarah MacDougall takes home WCMA
We are excited to announce that our very own Sarah MacDougall has been named the winner of the 2012 Western Canadian Music Awards for Roots Solo Recording of the Year for her album The Greatest Ones Alive! Congratulations, Sarah!
Sarah originates from Sweden but has settled happily into life in western Canada, and now lives in the Yukon after many years of calling Vancouver home. Congratulations as well to the other nominees in this category; Cam Penner, Jay Semko, Scott Nolan and Zaak Pick - fierce competition, and all amazing artists.
Sarah MacDougall heads out on a month-long tour of Europe in November and has studio time planned for recording her next (potentially award-winning?) album, but you can be sure to catch her on the road in Canada and the U.S. again soon.

Peter Katz - The Making of 'Still Mind Still'
2012 JUNO NOMINATIONS: Congrats to Tangents North Music artists Peter Katz and David Francey!
We are pleased to announce that two TNM artists have received 2012 Juno Award nominations. For David Francey, a well-known icon in the Canadian folk/roots scene, the two nominations (Roots & Traditional Album of the Year, Solo, for Late Edition, and Music DVD of the Year for Burning Bright) are his fifth and sixth Juno nominations. Francey has a fierce competitor in the Music DVD of the Year category, though - TNM's own Peter Katz has received his first ever Juno nomination for his beautifully produced Peter Katz and Friends: Live At The Music Gallery.
"It was a massive shock, not something I thought I would ever see happen in my lifetime," writes Katz in a recent post on his website, reflecting on hearing the news of the nomination. "It was a good day."
Whatever the outcome, we're proud of our artists- congratulations, David and Peter! We're rooting for you!

Described by the magazine Rootstime in Belgium as ‘One of the greatest talents of our era”, and listed as the “2nd best gig” by the major UK newspaper The Independent, Canadian/Swedish Sarah MacDougall is becoming known for her honest and poetic songs, blistering guitar chops, passionate performances, and unique astounding voice. She has been earning rave reviews and topping major music writers top ten album of the year lists as a songwriter since her official debut album Across the Atlantic (2009), all the while producing and engineering her own music. Born in Sweden, 24 hrs Vancouver called her ‘one of the most promising exports out of Sweden since Abba’, Swedish magazine Nöjesguiden recently declared her “One of Sweden’s best singer/songwriters”. The debut Across the Atlantic got four-star reviews in such notable publications as Q magazine, the Irish Times, No Depression, and the recent album The Greatest Ones Alive has been gathering 4 and 5 star reviews since its release in August 2011. My new Live CD/DVD - Peter Katz and Friends: Live at the Music Gallery is out on iTunes WORLDWIDE TODAY, right now, immediately! (right HERE) Actually, only the audio is available on iTunes, if you would like the CD/DVD combo then that can be ordered right HERE or at any of my upcoming CD/DVD release tour shows.
I recorded this show back in May of 2010 not really knowing what I was going to do with it, but as I started listening back to it, I realized that for many of the songs, these live versions were THE versions I had always wanted people to hear. They feel like the 'real' incarnation of many of the songs, funny how things work... You can decide for yourself of course by visiting this special page where you can DOWNLOAD 2 FREE songs from the CD! Then, if you like what you hear, you can either order the CD/DVD or get the audio of the whole concert immediately on itunes. There's also a video player at the free download page where you can get a sneak peak of the DVD content!

PETER KATZ - Looking for a Support Act!
Hi Folks!I’m playing a big show at the Music Gallery in Toronto on September 23rd as a CD/DVD release for my new live album called: ‘Peter Katz and Friends: Live at the Music Gallery’.
I’m looking for 3 acoustic solo/duo acts to play as part of a song-circle before my set. If you are interested in filling one of the 3 spots, then please send a youtube or vimeo link (no longer than 5 minutes) of you playing one of your original songs to my manager Sean Russell (srussell@tangentsnorth.com) by August 29th. The results will be announced on September 1st.
Video Criteria:
- No longer than 5 minutes
- Please only send youtube or vimeo links, no large files
- Music MUST be original, no covers please
- Solo or duo acts only this time
What you’ll get:
- A opening spot on September 23rd
- Place to sell CD’s, T-shirts, mailing list, etc.

PETER KATZ - NEW RECORD IS UNDERWAY
The time has come for me to make a new studio album! I have been writing like a madman and I have so many new songs I can’t wait to share with you.
At the core of this campaign is a simple request: if you think you might like to buy the album in the future, perhaps you would consider purchasing it now to save me from dealing with extreme debt and excessive bake sales.

Peter Katz Ernestown Secondary Workshop
Hi Folks, I was recently invited to do a workshop/show at The Ernestown Secondary School in Odessa Ontario. I had a wonderful afternoon playing for about 100 students, answering questions, telling stories, it was really nice. After school though, I was invited to their choir practice to join them on my songs 'First of the Last to Know' and 'Til You Come Home' which they're doing as part of their repertoire! Blew my mind, I was very touched. One of the teachers filmed while we performed 'First of the Last to Know' together and I had to share it with you. Big thanks to Mr. (Andy) Rush and the amazing Ernestown Secondary School Choir!! In other news, getting ready for my East Coast Tour which starts next week!
